How Does Microcurrent Work?
Microcurrent is a low-level sensationless electrical stimulation which provides a type of current that matches the amperage of current found in the cells of the body (1,000,000th of an amp!)
It is used by medical doctors, chiropractors and acupuncturists to promote accelerated healing in bones, muscles, and other tissues, and is particularly popular with athletes for injury recovery.
Originally discovered as a way to regenerate wrinkled, sagging facial muscles for post-stroke and Bell’s palsy patients, microcurrent has become a powerful tool for estheticians to reverse the damage aging does to your facial skin. Research on microcurrent’s effect on fibroblasts (connective tissue cells) by skin biopsy before and in between microcurrent treatments, has found a statistically significant increase not only in the production of collagen and elastin, the skin’s main structural proteins, which degrade with age, but in that of glycosaminoglycans, or “GAGs,” the viscous material in which the proteins are embedded.

How Does LED Light Therapy Work?
LED light therapy is a gentle process by which light of various frequencies or (colors) is projected onto the skin and into underlying tissues. The specific colors penetrate the skin to different depths, causing photo-stimulation, a therapeutic and cell-renewing process that has been clinically proven to improve cell function.
LED light therapy can:

Sixty-eight studies in vitro and in animals were analyzed. LED and LASER promote similar biological effects, such as decrease of inflammatory cells, increased fibroblast proliferation, stimulation of angiogenesis, granulation tissue formation and increased synthesis of collagen.

BACKGROUND: Interest in anti-aging approaches has grown significantly in recent years. The most popular are the non invasive methods to decrease the signs of aging. One such method is LED-based therapy.
Combined, the LED wavelengths could improve in vitro the cell shape, the cell proliferation, and the level of major proteins involved in the healing process.
CONCLUSION: These benefits may lead to reinforcement of the skin organization and structure.

CONCLUSIONS: Photomodulation to reverse photoaging is possible with a specific array of LEDs with a specific fluence using a precise pulsing or “code” sequence. Skin textural improvement by digital imaging and surface profilometry is accompanied by increased collagen I deposition with reduced MMP-1 (collagenase) activity in the papillary dermis. This technique is a safe and effective non-painful non-ablative modality for improvement of photoaging.

Furthermore, the telomeres in UVA-treated cells were shortened compared to those of cells in the red light groups. These results suggest that red light plays a key role in the antiphotoaging of human skin fibroblasts by acting on different signaling transduction pathways.
